Course Overview

The GWO Fire Awareness course is designed to give participants the knowledge, skills, and ability to prevent fires, and safely manage the evacuation of themselves and others in the event of a fire in a wind turbine environment. It will also enable participants to extinguish an initial fire using basic handheld equipment if it is judged safe to do so.

Who Is The Course For?

Course Content​

  • Understanding the role of legislation in fire safety on wind turbines

  • Explaining the requirements for fire combustion

  • Understanding fire behaviour and how fires spread

  • Identifying best-practice fire prevention methods

  • Explaining measures to take in the event of a fire, including contingency planning and evacuation

  • Demonstrating understanding of how to safely extinguish fires using fire-fighting equipment in a wind turbine environment

More Information & Pre-Requisites

  • Certificate validity:

    • 24 months

  • Items to bring:

    • Photo ID (e.g passport or driving license)

    • Safety boots or shoes

  • Pre-requisites:

    • Participants must be in a good state of physical fitness (participants will be required to fill in a medical self-declaration)

    • Participants must have a WINDA ID (to obtain a WINDA ID, participants can register here)

    • If participants are doing the refresher course, they must hold a GWO Fire Awareness certificate that is in date on the day of the course
