The GWO Fire Awareness course is designed to give participants the knowledge, skills, and ability to prevent fires, and safely manage the evacuation of themselves and others in the event of a fire in a wind turbine environment.
It will also enable participants to extinguish an initial fire using basic handheld equipment they judge the situation safe to do so.
This course will cover:
Understanding the role of legislation in fire safety on wind turbines
Elements needed for combustion
Understanding fire behaviour and how fires spread
Identifying best-practice fire prevention methods
Explaining measures to take in the event of a fire, including contingency planning and evacuation
Practicing how to safely extinguish fires using manual fire-fighting equipment in a wind turbine environment
You must be 18 or over to undertake this course
Participants must have a WINDA ID (to obtain a WINDA ID, participants can register for free here)
You must complete a medical self-declaration before undertaking the training (this will be sent to you after you have booked)
You must be able to speak English to a reasonable level for course material comprehension and safety purposes
You must have an accepted form of photographic ID. We accept the following forms of ID:
Passport
Driving license
A PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
A Blue Badge
A biometric residence permit (BRP)
A Defence Identity Card (MOD form 90)
A HM Armed Forces Veteran Card (MOD form 100)
A national identity card issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
Participants will be assessed via a written test and their practical performance during assessment scenarios
This course is certified by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO)
All participants will receive an electronic certificate uploaded to WINDA
Certificates are valid for 2 years
Refresher courses must be completed no later than 1 day before the expiry date on your current certificate. E.g. if your current certificate expires on the 31st January, then your refresher course must be completed by the 30th January at the latest
If a refresher course is completed less than 60 days before the expiry date, the original expiry date is maintained
All PPE required for the course will be provided, except for safety footwear
We do provide basic gloves, however if you would prefer to bring your own then please feel free to do so
Lunch is provided on most of our courses (the exception being if you are doing a course which begins later in the afternoon)
Unfortunately, we may be unable to cater for gluten and dairy-free, and certain allergies due to our suppliers
If you do have an allergy or food intolerance, please get in touch with us to discuss this before your course date
